MOTOROLA DROID TIPS AND TRICKS
12:06AM Sunday Nov 08 2009 by andranic
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2009
So as many of you know I got a Motorola Droid and have spent the last 24 hours playing with this phone. A few problems that I have found are that the Battery life is horrible. after just a few hours of using the phone the battery is dead. The reason for this is that the Apps run in the background ( not like the Iphone where it turns it off as soon as you exit the app) . So what I did was download a app called Advanced Task Manager . The app allows you to turn off the apps you no longer want running

T-Mobile 'Project Dark'
10:36AM Monday Oct 12 2009 by danielk
For those that haven't heard about it, T-MO is apparently working on something BIG, that they claim would move them up from #4 in the US. The most accepted rumor is that they're going to announce a $50 Unlimited everything (minutes, text, data) plan along with a good bit of new devices (BB 9700, N900, etc.) and aggressive 3g rollout including HSPA 21 starting 2010.

08:07PM Friday Sep 25 2009 by rmdir
By Taylor Wimberly on Sep 24

Everyone’s favorite Android hacker appears to have angered someone at Google. We just received word that Cyanogen has received a cease and desist letter from Google. Details are scarce, but it appears Google is not happy about Cyanogen distributing their closed source Android apps (Market, Talk, Gmail, YouTube, etc). CyanogenMod is easily the most popular custom Android rom with over 30,000 active users.

Houston will be one of the first six cities to get a faster version of AT&T's wireless data network, which will have theoretical transfer speeds of up to 7.2 megabits a second, by the end of the year.

Houston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles and Miami should have the HSPA 7.2 service working by the end of the year, AT&T officials said last week.

The technology — known as High Speed Packet Access — is an iteration of AT&T's current wireless data system, and an interim step on the way to its fourth-generation, or 4G, wireless network. AT&T hopes to have HSPA in place for 90 percent of its 3G markets by the end of 2011.

Finnish wireless giant Nokia announced that it has completed trials with the "first ever Long Term Evolution (LTE) capable Internet Modem."

The product upon which the trials were conducted was the Nokia Internet Modem RD-3, a development tool by no means intended for consumer use. The company says it will be used with network vendors as well as measurement equipment manufacturers and operators. The RD-3 is interoperable with GSM/EDGE and WCDMA/HSPA and supports multiple LTE frequency bands with a theoretical peak of 100 Mbps downstream.

Since launching in public beta last September, full-featured mobile browser Skyfire has been installed by more than a million North Americans. Today, the official first version has been released, and is available for free on Windows Mobile 5 and 6, and Symbian S60 3rd Edition handsets.

Skyfire has striven to provide a PC-like browsing experience on phones since its earliest stages. All pages are rendered on Skyfire's servers instead of in-phone, and it supports Flash 10, Silverlight 2, Ajax, and JavaScript, making most rich media fully available even on 2G data connections.
