5/4/04 - Called to order digital cable and RR on the 4th. The CSR said that she didn't know if the address was servicable so she requested a check to see. On Thursday, TW called back and said OK. Ordered digital cable and RR on Thursday for an install date of the 11th.
On the 11th, the technician called and actually arrived early! He split the cable and installed RR and the digital cable box.
Got an Toshiba PCX2600 and a Pioneer digital cable terminal. Ran some speed tests on dslreports.com and after tweaking, got ~2700/300, which is close to the 3000/384 that is expected. Had a small glitch with the digital box, but a call to CS got that cleared up. Being that is RR, it is a dymanic IP. I plugged my router in so I'd have a hardware firewall on top of my software firewall.
Overall, the CSRs could use a little more training, but the install was smooth. Very nice!
Update: I cancelled my RR in August as I only needed it for the summer. (Summer internship). But, I'd sign up for RR again if I need to.
The last review was for WOH. This one is for NEO.
4/8/05 - Called TW to order RR + Digipix 1000 + DVR as they have a special going on for new customers. Digipix 1000 + RR for $79.95 until 2/2006 and the DVR is $10 more a month making the total $93/mth. The appointment is scheduled for the 12th.
4/12/05 - Installer was at my apartment when I got there. He split the cable and installed an Explorer 8000 DVR and Motorola Surfboard SB5100. He also activated the second outlet in my bedroom. I called TW for their referral program and was able to add Showtime for $2 more until 4/2006 making the total $95.
11/11/05 - Called TW last night to see about dropping Showtime and getting another movie channel. They offered me HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, The Movie Channel, Starz and Encore plus HBO on Demand, Cinemax on Demand, Showtime on Demand and The Movie Channel on Demand for $11 a month until 11/2006 making the total $107.
11/12/05 - Got another digital cable box for my second TV (Pioneer digital cable terminal). It's $7.95/mth making my bill $116/mth.
1/31/06 - Got the Scientific Atlantic 8300HD DVR installed to replace my SA 8000 DVR for my HDTV. Also got the HD Pak for $6.95/mth which includes HDNet, HDNet Movies, inHD, inHD 2 and ESPN HD.
-- Transfer from Adelphia to TWC NEO --
3/24/07 - Was officially transferred from Adelphia's Internet Service to Road Runner. I called TWC about lowering my bill and got them to lower it from $141/mth which included Digital Cable, HD Pak, DVR, Road Runner, Cinemax and Starz to $123/mth with includes all of the aforementioned plus HBO, Showtime and The Movie Channel. This is until 3/2008.
5/11/07 - Time Warner just upped Road Runner to 7000/512 for their standard customers.
6/25/07 - Uverse has come to town. Using this, I was able to get TWC to give me 2 digital boxes for free until 7/15/08. So now I'm paying $124 for everything.
7/8/07 - TWC has come for the past 2 Saturdays and is coming this Saturday to replace my standard digital boxes. The first two they gave me were for the wrong system. (I live in an former Adelphia system "TWC-North", the boxes they gave me were for the classic TWC system "TWC-South"). Then one of the boxes had static on the analog channels. That box was replaced. Next, the other digital box randomly reboots, so TWC is coming to replace that box as well. After all this, they are charging me $130/mth instead of the promised $124/mth. That's after fixing a billing error where they were charging me for a 4th digital box. Sadly, after the Adelphia buyout, customer service has gone in the toilet.
12/08/08 - TWC raised my bill from $124/mth to $144/mth. I went ahead and canceled, effective 12/21. Uverse is supposed to be installed on 12/20.
