Note: Im a Comcast HSI user, but with the recent evacuation because of Hurricane Gustav, a few of my relatives scooped me up and whisked me off to a safer place. Here, instead of Comcast, my aunt and uncle use Charter Pipeline internet service, in Lacombe, LA, clocked originally at 3000/256. Much to my surprise, given Charters poor rep and financial status, that package has been trashed and the package now clocks in at 5000/512.
They first got this service back in 2001 and one day, I walked in to find a now ancient Motorola Surfboard 4101 sitting on the floor, blinking away. Recently, they told me theyve been having some problems with the modem, but its been nearly a year since I was told this and they still have the same modem. (Ill give this for Moto Surfboards: They are beasts when it comes to working with poor signal, old modems and less then optimal conditions. I highly recommend them when using any cable service, since Ive an SB 5100 going on almost 5 years now and it hasnt skipped a beat unless something was being done.)
Ive not used the service long, but the Charter section here is pretty well done in terms of service, channel selection, and general reliability. This surprises me greatly given Charters financial status and basically poor conditions all around.
At this moment, the service, along with cable TV remains offline, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav. Ill post this review when its back online and Ive observed more of the connection vs my Comcast 8800/2200 line at home.
Edit: Internet and TV just popped on and I've clocked in at 4.99 on the download side!
