As an Ex Employee of Insight Communications I would have to say that Insight speeds are still tops. I know from working with the company that there were flaws but that will be with any ISP or MSO out on the market today.
I have had Insight services since 2000 and have enjoyed them very much. I do agree that they can be a bit pricey but in the long run if you look at the DSL services locally they are about the same price for a lot less speeds. So for all those who are hesitant on getting Insight services go for it , with them at least you do not have a contractual agreement unless you are using the business services with Insight Business. This is the department I came from and have a very good knowledge over how the systems work so if you have any questions please feel free to PM me.
4/26/09 Just recently moved , well about 1 month ago so during the transition I contacted Insight to do a transfer of service. The sales rep which was kind of like a car sales man straight face told me Insight now charges $25.00 to transfer services???? This was a sore spot with me but since we already had the service I went on with my business and scheduled in the day.
Out of all the years I had used Insight Services(plus all the years I worked there) they have NEVER charged a Transfer fee, this just totally blows my mind. Mike Wilner what in the world is your company doing? This is a tough economic time and your company just ups and says " Hey we can make an extra buck if we hit these people where it hurts when they move "
If Insight is going to stay such a community company and help the community cut the crap charges and actually do Transfer services free as your company always has never charged for.
Only thing left to say is to the public if you are going to move I highly suggest you cancel the service , wait a few days after you have moved then call up and just order new service to avoid the $25.00 charge. This would either irritate them and they make the move to quite charging the fee or nothing...

| $25 isn't bad I've worked for insight for several years now and I believe they have had a standard $25 transfer fee for residential accounts that entire time. You said you worked at Insight business so perhaps it is different there. Either way I never saw $25 as being so bad. I mean maybe if you are moving down the hall do a different apt. and only have 1 tv it could be a bit of a rip off, but really for $25 a tech paid hourly by Insight ( or a contractor) will come to your new residence and do any work required to get your services running as they were at your previous residence. Which often includes running a new wire from the house to the pole or underground pedestal, running or replacing outlets, new splitters, and then activating you equipment, ho0king it up properly which may be simple to some people but plugging in a modem to a pc and a DVR to a high def set is way over some people heads. Very often these jobs can take hours. I just dont see the price as being that bad. On a typical transfer add up the cost of employee wages, and new equipment costs and it can be quite a value I would think. Given I am going on average from my experience. The work and equipment will vary from job to job, Some need more and some need less. Either way I don't know what Dish network, Direct T.v., Windstream, or Verizon etc. etc but I would think Insight is competitive wth them | |

| Transfer Fee Not to be too subjective against your comments, but I worked both Residential and Business side of Insight and I have NEVER seen a 25.00 transfer fee been billed.
It was always a courtesy to transfer services over to a new address for an existing customer.
Even the Sales rep stated that Insight implemented this as of Jan 2009 so I am not sure where you have your information from. | |
