When I was offered $99/mo for the triple play I jumped on it. Our plan was to dump our Vonage line as call quality has gone down hill as of late. Once set up, the first thing I noticed was the clarity of every single phone call. Test faxes had a 100% success rate.

THEN the telemarketing calls begun. It seems that if you don't pay TWC $3/mo to have an unlisted number, they sell your number to everyone under the sun. From 5 pm to 8 pm we were bombarded with 3-6 calls an hour. About 1 week of this and we decided to retain our Vonage line and set the fax up on our TWC line. The telemarketers must have gotten tired of listening to fax tones as the calls on that line have since stopped.

    Telemarketers?

I have TWC in Ohio, and they have me set as an unlisted non-published number. Cost - $0.00, why, because it is an included feature for the asking. Got zero telemarketer calls.

Got to »www.donotcall.gov and put your number in the database. Within 30 days, you should see a marked drop in such calls.

I believe that TWC Voip allows you to block any calls that come in without the caller ID intact so that you can determine if you want to answer or not.

Vonage call quality on Time Warner

Well it is possible that Time Warner is throttling the quality of your Vonage service in order to sell their Digital Phone. Of course one thing that Vonage needs to educate people on, and one thing that some crabbing customers don't understand is that Vonage's call quality depends entirely on the quality of your internet service.

I have Time Warner Cable in South West Ohio and my Vonage quality is excellent here in Dayton. Although I suspect it might get better still if I upgrade to their new Road Runner Turbo service for more bandwidth. I haven't seen any evidence of them trying to throttle Vonage voice packets, though.

Re: Vonage call quality on Time Warner

I also have TW in SW Ohio, (Cincinnati) with Vonage. Have had great results with Vonage, and recently re-negoiated my packge with TW for about a 19% reduction in price and the addition of the Turbo service (2 yr. contract vs month to month). As far as improved quality on Vonage, had great before and still great, so no way to compare.
