(ratings well above consensus)

Overall, no complaints. I upgraded to Ultra and it took 2 days. For about two weeks, I was having connection issues. It was cleared up quickly. The connection is now very reliable and fast.

    I am getting 2624/490 for a 3000/640 connection
I use my own modem (no renting) and am on a no cap service. The service is PPPoE.

    I recommend it to anyone

    EDIT: SEPTEMBER 1st 2007

Well, I have moved back from Rogers. I ordered the begining of August, with an install date of 31 August. On the 30th, I had not received my modem, so I contacted Aliant. The CSR was fantastic; he rushed a modem to me, which I received the next morning.

The speed is what I expected, and I may jump to their new 10 Meg service. It is also nice to be able to ping again (Rogers blocks this).

The only down side is the automatic instalation CD. It has to be used so that you can get a username. It was a pain as it was very slow, hijacked my homepage, and installed Net Assistant. Once instalation was complete, I was able to uninstall all the garbage, and all is well in my little neck of the woods.

March 2008: Still love it!! Looking at upgrading to Premium (10 Meg service) soon.

Sept 08: Premium is not available yet, but I do enjoy my service very much!

    You'll learn

It'll first start when you find out you have to pay to rent a sympatico modem even if you're using your own. Then you'll find out far worst things like traffic shaping, speed throttling, minuscule caps, overcharges, non-existent service desk that works only the hours most people are at work. There's many, many others but you'll learn. You'll still just green.

    Aliant is very good

Actually Aliant has one of the better help desks around. Not sure on how the rest of Bell Canada shapes up but Aliant high speed was very reliable with no limits or issues.

    Re: Aliant is very good

The amount of Aliant users isn't even worth telling me about as it would represent less than one ten-thousandth compared to the total users of sympatico in southern Ontario. What you state has no relevance whatsoever.

    I agree

I don't know about Bell internet but Aliant internet is generally reliable, fast and pricing is relative to other ISPs in Newfoundland. It's a step up from Rogers, even if the speeds are slightly lower.
