This year our Software Forum Member Choice Poll on Cookie Controls, had 247 participants with 310 total votes.

At closing time - the poll showed continued support of a free product from Piriform, CCleaner. Thus again taking the lead this year, with 43.8% of the vote.

Wikipedia defines cookies as "parcels of text sent by a server to a web browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser each time it accesses that server. Cookies are used for authenticating, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users, such as site preferences or the contents of their electronic shopping carts. The term "cookie" is derived from "magic cookie," a well-known concept in UNIX computing which inspired both the idea and the name of HTTP cookies."

In second place - our members chose "None" - with 21.6% of the vote.

Third place went to "Other" - users primarily using browser controls to thwart cookies, with 10% of the vote.

The remainder of choices we examined are below:

CleanCache
Cookie Jar
Cookie Monster
Cookie Pal
CookieCuller
CookieWall
E3
IE Privacy Keeper
IECookiesView
Index.dat Suite
Karen's Cookie Viewer
MRU-Blaster
Paraben's Cookie Manager
Proxomitron

A quote we bring forward every year:

"No files are destroyed or compromised by cookies, but if it concerns you about being identified or about having your web browsing traced through the use of a cookie, either set your browser to not accept cookies or use one of the cookie blocking programs available to you."
