1.2 Networking and Sharing

·How do I share a connection with the MSN DSL 1000 modem
·Where can I check the MSN network Status?
A router must be used with this modem (i.e., a cable/DSL router). The D-link DI-604 is an inexpensive and easy to use choice. The router must be set-up for dynamic IP address.

Note that an hub can be used, but ICS must be set up on one computer that can connect to the hub and the modem separately.

It is important to note that the MSN 8 software installation includes a DSL Connection Tool. This tool must be deleted from all computers connected to the router. This is because the modem will lock up and stop responding within 48 hours if the tool is installed. If you want the DSL Connection Tool left installed, then turn the modem off and on daily to prevent lockups Some people have used a timer to cycle the power when they are away from their computer.
