This year our 2009 Software Forum Member Choice POLL on Cookie Controls, had 154 participants with 219 total votes.

At closing time the poll showed continued support of a free product from Piriform, CCleaner, thus again taking the lead this year, with 42% of the vote.

Wikipedia defines cookies as "parcels of text sent by a server to a web browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser each time it accesses that server. Cookies are used for authenticating, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users, such as site preferences or the contents of their electronic shopping carts. The term "cookie" is derived from "magic cookie," a well-known concept in UNIX computing which inspired both the idea and the name of HTTP cookies."

In second place - our members chose "None" - with 19.1% of the vote.

Third place went to "Other" - users primarily using browser controls to thwart cookies, with 12.3% of the vote.

A chosen favorite for Firefox users is Cookie Safe.
