[speed/latency] Sudden High Latency with FastPath

I have fastpath on my line, and my average latency has been a consistent 12.7 to 13.9 ms, as far back as July, and before. The last time I ran a line test prior to today was 10/16. http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2576329

I ran multiple line tests today, and the latency is now averaging 49.0 ms.
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2584397
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2584363
I also started running the line monitor again, and it's showing 48 ms from the east coast server. It use to average between 13 & 14 ms. If I didn't know better, I would think I was put back on Interleave, but the transtats indicate I'm on fastpath:

Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0
Vendor ID Code: 4
Line Mode: ADSL2+ Mode
Data Path: Fast

Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path
DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 1181 447
Margin (dB) 31.0 26.0
Line Attenuation (dB) 42.5 25.0
Transmit Power (dBm) 17.4 12.0

I ran a tweak test, and the ICMP ping check averages between 13.71 ms and 15.60 ms test:http://www.dslreports.com/tweakr/block:55ee84?service=dsl&speed=1024&os=win98&via=routerpppoe

Is there a possibility that I am back on interleave, or is there another explanation that would explain the sudden increase in latency?

Wireless password

I have DSL connected to my desktop. When I wanted to use my notebook I had to input a 'password' in order for my notebook to be connected to my desktop (wireless).

#1-Where can I find that password? And how can I change it?

#2- If I do change it, will I still be able to use my notebook?

#3- When I try to connect another notebook, I would use that new password. Would that be correct?

[modem/router] Verizon Modem/Router on eBay

I'm weighing the pros and cons of a NO contract DSL with Verizon.
While I'm aware of the "free" modem you get with a 12 or 24 month contract, I can't honestly say if I will be able to keep my home and may have to move to an area that doesn't have Verizon DSL.

Verizon wants $100.00 for a modem/router and I see many Westell 327 and Verizon GT704WG listed on eBay for a third or less of that price. I realize, I could buy a dud, however, assuming I don't, how do I make sure that I purchase something that will work with Verizon's latest standards?

Do you have recommendations on what I should buy?

New DSL User questions

Verizon sent my a Westell 6100G modem. When I hook it up it blinks for a while and then the DSL and Internet lights stay on steady and green. Does this mean I should be up and running even though I'm 9 days away from my service ready date?

Also, is there a link to a web site to create my account so I don't have to run that program they give you on DVD, that tells you how to connect your wires and all this? I'd rather create my account through another internet service and then just put that into the PPoE info in my router.

Thank you!

How to get rid of Verizon?

I have had it with Verizon, and want to get rid of it. But everytime I called, I'm told "We're closed." I was told that I could do this online (24/7). But when I try that I get a login error message:

"We are unable to process your request at this time.
We apologize for any inconvenience. Please try again later."

What is going on here? This is the third time I called to cancel with no one picking up. I feel like big V is giving me the "George Costanza routine".

[speed/latency] Want to prioritize Xbox traffic w/327W

I have Verizon DSL with the 327W router and am looking to treat Xbox traffic as the highest priority. I don't want our computers to be able to lag me out while playing.

There are various ways to prioritize traffic in L2/L3 networks that I'm familiar with, but I'm at the mercy of the 327W. I can't seem to find a way (or even clear documentation) to do what I want to do.

Can anyone help? Please let me know.

System slow tonight?

It seems my desktop and notebook are both very slow tonight trying to view pages.
Anyone else having similar problem? I'm in Queens, NY.
I am even find it hard to get into SpeakEasy.
My DSL is 768kb, but as I said, everything is loading very slowly.
Could it just be a slowdown on the Internet. I did get through to the SpeakEasy before and it was showing about 300kb.
It states "Preparing download test" and then it just sticks there for a while and then slowly shows 227 kbps! Upload shows 273 kbps.
Does anyone know what is going on?

Frontier buying Verizon access lines in several states

Frontier buying Verizon access lines in several states

Frontier Communications to Acquire Verizon Assets Creating Nation’s Largest Pure Rural Communications Services Provider

http://www.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20090513005561&newsLang=en

"Frontier will acquire Verizon access lines in Arizona, California, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia. Frontier currently provides phone, video, Internet and broadband services to more than 2 million customers in 24 states, including 11 of the states that are part of the agreement announced today. The Verizon properties include approximately 4.8 million access lines, with 1.0 million High-Speed Internet customers, 2.2 million long-distance customers, 164,000 DirecTV customers and 69,000 FiOS video customers."

(I know this was also covered on the DSLReports news page, but this link gives some additional details).

Wonder how this will impact DSL users in the affected states?
