@wildblue.net

Just had Wildblue installed

To replace my 3 year old Hughesnet system.I did not have anything against Hughesnet until it needed service and was having trouble getting support.So when I found a local installer for Wildblue and could get it through Dishnetwork all on one bill I decided to switch.

...and you should register (free) let us know which bird and beam you're on......and then we can all be of more help as time goes by.

Welcome to WB !!! (and hopefully to DSLR)

I was registered at Dishmail.net?So I have no idea if I need to register at Wildblue?Do I get my information from the Dishmail site because I sighned up through dishnetwork.Or do I need to still register with Wildblue?

I think opus74 was referring to registering at this site, BBR.

Since you got WB service via Dish Network, Dish Network provides your billing and support. The Wildblue site is for Wildblue direct customers.

OK I will register thanks.Does Wildblue have away to check things like signal strenght.I do not get much information from Dishnetwork or Wilblue as of yet.Probably takes awhile to get into there system.Has only been up and running about 7 hours or so.But so far I am happy with it.Would like to no signal strength and what bird im on and things like that.Does not seem to have a Control panel sight like Hughes did?

As far as I know Dish Network does not provide a way for the user to access his signal levels. One must ask an installer to use the SVT (Service Visibility Tool) and report the values to you.

Since you are a new customer you are probably using the satellite Wildblue-1 (WB-1). Also it would be wise to determine which spot beam and gateway you are using. If you have a connectivity problem, the first things to check are your weather and the weather at your gateway because bad weather can cause problems with satellite Internet. If you do not know your spot beam, I can probably figure it out if you post your ZIP code or the name of a nearby city and its state.

Assuming you are using the satellite WB-1, Dwight, IL is covered by spot beam 114 and uses the Laredo Gateway in Laredo TX. The other less likely possibility is spot beam 27 of the satellite Anik-F2 which uses the Winnipeg Gateway. You can find links to radar maps of the gateways in the sticky thread, Weather at Wildblue NOC's, located on BBR's Wildblue forum page.

Beam 114 is popular and probably suffers from prime time slowdown, that is, slow upload and download speeds from about 5 pm to 11 pm on weekdays.

A good site to run speed tests on Wildblue Internet is Test My Network. If you have the Value Pack (Dish Network calls it the Bronze package), I suggest using the 1024 kB file size for download and the 579 kB file for upload. If the testing file size is too small, the result will be inaccurate. Here are my results while using the Cheyenne proxy for Anik-F2:

:::.. Download Stats ..:::
Download Connection is:: 674 Kbps about 0.7 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB)
Download Speed is:: 82 kB/s
Tested From:: »testmy.net/ (Main)
Test Time:: 2009/04/12 - 10:26pm MDT
Bottom Line:: 12X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 12.49 sec
Tested from a 1013 kB file and took 12.307 seconds to complete
Download Diagnosis:: May need help : running at only 84.04 % of your hosts average (230.36)
D-Validation Link:: »testmy.net/stats/id-NOWKH04BM

:::.. Upload Stats ..:::
Upload Connection is:: 127 Kbps about 0.1 Mbps (tested with 579 kB)
Upload Speed is:: 16 kB/s
Tested From:: »testmy.net/ (Main)
Test Time:: 2009/04/12 - 10:29pm MDT
Bottom Line:: 2X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 64 sec
Tested from a 579 kB file and took 37.313 seconds to complete
Upload Diagnosis:: Looks Great : 9.48 % faster than the average for host (230.36)

I just have the basic package dishnetwork calls it the silver package.$49.95 if I jump to the next middle pack it would jump to $69.95 I hope to just stay where I am but if I would gain a lot I would upgrade?Would there be a big differance in speed for what they claim?If I read it right it should be about twice as fast?

Not twice a fast. I have the select pak (next one up) and usually see up to 1000K down, up to 200K up, pretty much as advertised.

How about when things are slower?Example if I only get 300 rather then 700 at times.If I upgraded would that mean my slow times would increase?Or is it when weather or heavy traffic what ever causes it to slow it would just be the same way Slow!

Slowness from weather/traffic/beam you are on, I really don't know.

Today here for example we are getting snow, wet snow at that, and if there is enough on the dish that will interfere for some sluggish browsing, snow on a little white peice (see arrow on attached photo).

If your beam has prime time slowdown, according to reports the middle and top package are especially slow during such times. The bottom package does not slow down as much. Since the latency is the same with all packages, browsing does not improve much with the higher speed packages, but downloading and uploading files improves.

Sounds like I might as well stick with the basic package.Thats OK for me and is what I had with Hughesnet.So I can use the lower monthly price to my advantage

After 6 full days with Wildblue.So far not to bad I have used it a lot during the 6 days.Speed has been very good so far with only 2 slow times.I did have my first outage tonight Friday at around 11pm CDT and Texas was getting a storm according to the Weather channel.So I must get my service from Larado Texas?Came right back as fast as it left.But it storms a lot in Texas in the summer!Overall so far so good.

Be careful not to overdo it with your new toy. Watch your usage meter and remember that no usage will subtract off your meter for the first 30 days.

Should of invested in EVDO - Service provider is Millenicom which uses Verizon/Sprint cell towers and services for internet access. Device used Pantech UM175. A&TT not so bad also. Wireless internet is the future...

7%-4% usage after a week I think im safe from FAP I do not download a lot.

EVDO sounds OK if only a Cell phone worked in this area without a droped signal.There for it would be as worthless as a cell phone.It might get a signal but more then likley it will not.

I've had Wild Blue installed by dish network..Had it less than a week...
I am currently on the silver package...I tested my speed and it said it was 150,005 KB Is this the speed it is suppose to be.
Thank you
