[DSL] No AOL Welcome Screen or Browser; Have Email

I use AOL 8.0 client & starting mid-March haven't had a Welcome screen. I connect via a DSL line using TCP/IP. I can receive/send email but can't use the AOL browser, tho I have no internet problems with MSIE 6.0. There are some things it's more convenient to use the AOL browser for, so I'd like to fix it. Do not like AOL 9.0 and have the same problem with it on this computer.

AOL system shows this error message: Status: 513 Misconfigured Proxy RouteCache-Control: no-cachePragma: no-cacheConnection

Two other computers in my home use the same 2Wire DSL gateway but don't have this problem, so it's something with my computer. All the network settings I can find are the same on all three computers. Ditto the AOL updates. Reverting to a past System Restore point didn't fix the problem.

The problem computer is a Gateway P4, 768 MB RAM, with Windows XP SP2. AOL 8.0 was working fine one evening but when I signed on the next morning no Welcome screen appeared. Computer had not been turned off but was logged off AOL. I'd made no software or hardware changes. The same windows updates are installed on my computer as the other two in our home.

I've removed & reinstalled AOL 6 times, including once after I removed all AOL prgrams & cleaned the registry of everything AOL. Have uninstalled the AOL adapter, cleared cache, cookies, history & temp internet files, cleared the AOL art files and removed the \Windows\inf\oem.inf & pnf files for AOL. Also repaired the TCP/IP stack per AOL Help. Removing McAfee & AOL and reinstalling only AOL didn't fix the problem.

Hoping someone out there has had this problem & fixed it.
