1 edit | [CATV] DCX3400 green screen issue.
i just got the new DCX 3400 DVRs (3 of them) and im having an issue.
i have mine connected to my sony kdl32nl140 hdtv via a HDMI cable and all i see is a green screen with no picture. i hear the audio of the channel that its tuned into in the background, but for video all i get is a green screen.
i have noticed one thing though, when i unplug the HDMI cable and re-connect it to the STB i get picture for about 20 seconds then it goes back to the green screen.
* a couple of other notes: i have another tv (sony XBR6 52 inch) in my main living room with the DCX DVR and no issues with that tv, the issues are in my bedroom and my sons room (both tv's are the kdl32nl140). could there be a firmware issue? or an HDMI issue?
i also had the older DCH DVR's prior to getting the new DCX models, and i had no issues. |

| Most likely an HDMI issue. I have seen the green screen when using HDMI through receivers that weren't compatible with the cable boxes. Did you try the box that works on the other TV on one of the ones that is having this issue? If it has the same issue, the TV most likely isn't compatible. Surprised that this is happening on Sony TVs, though.
Good luck! |

| reply to Goliath Goliath, Is the DCX connected directly to the tv or thru a receiver? Have you tried resetting the tv? Is the issue on all channels? If you getting picture for 20 seconds and then it goes to a green screen it sounds like either a setting that is incorrect or possibly an hdcp issue. |

| reply to Goliath The DVR is probably broken. I had a 6416 whose HDMI output exhibited the same symptoms after 2 years of use.
Test one of your working DVRs with the Sony TV to verify. |

| reply to benjamin hey benjamin, i actually got rid of 2 of the dcx's this morning; a cool tech came out and swapped them out with dch's. the dch's dont have that issue which baffled me and the tech. he placed a call to one of the big-wigs and left him a msg regarding the issue. as far as how i have the dvr's connected its with a straight hdmi to the TV itself.
now here's the kicker! i get home today from work (20 minutes ago) and its happening to my XBR6 sony. and before i left work i showed the tech that it was working. i guess im gonna have to get rid of the DCX's until there's more of them on the field and maybe a firmware gets pushed out. |

| I dont think it would be the video settings on the box that would cause it to show for a period of time and then not. Have you tried using the component cables to see if its doing the same thing? Also, the TV has the ability to turn the HDMI control off and on, have you tried setting that to off? Perhaps there is an issue with the tv trying to control the box over the hdmi cable that is causing the issue. |

1 edit | i did try components and they do work. so my guess is that its either the HDMI cables themselves or an issue with the DVR and particular setups that i have..
one thing i must say is that the HDMI's that im using are all "Belkin Pure AV" cables. so im gonna run to walmart tomorrow and try some cheap brand cables to see if that works, if not then there's definitely something up with the sony/DCX combo. |

| We test the boxes extensively, across different TV platforms before deploying... However it is impossible to test every tv make and model.
please specify the exact model and we will check with our vendors..

Yeah, definitely sounds like an HDMI-related issue. Sorry to hear things only worked temporarily! It would be something if the cheap cables worked. That's what I use and I don't have any issues with my Sony XBR LCD...
Keep us posted. |

| reply to Goliath My mother recently upgraded her TV to a new Panasonic P50S1 plasma and I had her also pick up the new DCX3400, since mine has been working great. I have her box connected via HDMI and she is getting the 'Green Screen' just about every other day. Only a reboot of the DCX will fix it, for about a day or 2. I'm not sure where the issue lies at this point. TV, cable or box? -- »www.pregamelobby.com

| reply to Goliath The green screen issue is a major bug with the new Motorola DCX set top boxes. Motorola re-wrote the display engine to accompany more features such as native resolution, SD image enhancements, 1080p VOD, MPEG4, and eventually 16:9 program guides will be possible.
Apparently in their haste this nasty bug has come out. There are palates of these boxes at Comcast in my area, and employees are testing the boxes. Right now our area will NOT be rolling out DCX boxes to customers until Motorola's next firmware update which is supposedly going to fix this issue. ETA is June sometime.
If your area is affected by this issue, your only resolution is to use Component video, or get ahold of DCH or DCT set tops. Motorola made this mistake in the past with firmware 16.20 on their DCT series two years ago. |

1 edit | reply to jmirabella said by jmirabella :please specify the exact model and we will check with our vendors.. This is happening with our Samsung LN40b530.
Edit: I will try and locate some component cables and verify those are stable (which previous posts here and in AVSforums seem to confirm), then post results here.
Any idea when a firmware update will go out to LVH RCN customers? I did not realize just how "bleeding edge" we were when we got this DVR (4/30/09...apparently right when they became available). I would like to stop the bleeding now, thank you! |

| reply to jmirabella I have noticed this problem with HDMI connection on my Sony 46XBR4. It was fine for the first day. The second day things were fine. I used my PS3 (connected to a different HDMI input) and the tv was fine afterwards. The following day, I saw only a green screen on my cable box. Switching to a component input has allowed me to watch tv. Hope this info. helps. |

| reply to tigrzeye I'm sure they'll get the issues worked out soon enough...I thought I read somewhere that Motorola was planning on releasing a new firmware in June that would correct these issues...I'm also glad that the NY market was not used as a guinea pig for these new boxes |
