modem acting weird

I lost connection today because of a storm we had and when I got a connection again the top light stayed on like it's suppose to, but the bottom 3 were constantly flashing erratically. They'd flash at different times and only light up for a split second, I am not talking about how they do when you reboot the modem they were flashing very very fast and did this for approx. 30 min. All of a sudden the lights went back to normal, the top 2 stay on, the bottom 2 flash.

I had internet connection the entire time and the net speed stayed the same throughout.

What happened here?

Unplug power to modem...take a break...plug modem's power back in.

These guys are right about a firmware update and others have experienced the same thing.

During a firmware update the Rx light (second one from the top) is supposed to blink 4 times, pause and repeat.

Bottom three lights flashing constantly--second light flashing 2 times quickly--internet connection not interrupted--this has been going on three days now--. Before, the second light was solid,like it is supposed to be, now it is just blinking all the time.--What is going on?

The bottom light is just your "house" connection.

1. Unplug the RJ-45 from your modem or router input whichever is easier.

2. Unplug the modem, count to a reasonable number between 100 & 120 and plug it back in.

3. Now watch the second light and report the number of blinks.
1= Acquiring
2= Ranging
3= Registering
4= Software Download
On= Successful

If the second light isn't on steady ignore the third light and the fourth should be off since you unplugged it.

Once the second is on steady, plug in your router and you should be good.

The Rx light (second one from the top) blinking twice and your Internet connection still working, suggests there is a malfunction in your modem. It could be a hardware malfunction or programming error in the firmware. As opus74 suggested, power cycle your modem to see if that fixes it.

Seems others reporting this same problem.

"I called customer service and their records indicate that my service has been intermittent since the 22nd. They have set me up for a service call by one of their technicians for this Friday morning. I will keep you all informed. Also, the rep I talked with mentioned that there are a lot of their customers experiencing the very same problems... in fact their equipment is telling them that the 2nd light down is on steady, when it is in actuality doing the 2 flash - pause -2 flash thing."

I did the power cycle thing when I first noticed the light blinking, did nothing. It blinked that way for 3 days, as I said, then last night it went back solid and is still solid. Strange.
