| [DSL] dsl modem config
I messed up my dsl modem it is a comtrend ct5361t. i hit the reset button and the isp said i messed up the authentication config in the modem and said they would charge 50.00 to come out and refix it. but i figured out a way around it. since my wireless router has PPPoE in it i put in my username and password in it. is there anything wrong with that method? and also if anyone knows where i can download the software for that modem so i can fix it, would be appreciated |

1 edit | The Modem should have a Web Interface that you enter by opening a Browser and typing the Default Gateway IP listed on your PC that you can find (if you don't already know it) by running the "IPCONFIG /ALL" command in a DOS Command Box.

What does your PC show when connected only to the Modem as the Default Gateway IP? -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

@farmerstel.com | I already tried that, and also what the manufacture says to use to access it. i think u have to install the software first or use a usb cable |

| There is no software to install, no USB cable to use and the User Guide (attached to the top of this post and ready to download above by clicking on the link named "CT5361T_A3.3.pdf") shows that you simply have to login to the Modem using your Web Browser after initially setting your PC up with a Static Private LAN IP. The detailed instructions start at Page 19 in the above attached User Guide.

| Please post images of your PC LAN settings as you either have something misconfigured or made a small typo (it only takes one digit to stop it from working) or your firewall is blocking access to the Modem. Or Java Script is blocked or a Pop Up Blocker is running preventing the Pop Up of the login box where you type your Username/Password to gain access to the Web Interface in the Modem.
What Browser are you using to try to access the Modem at »192.168.1.1
What error message or result page do you get when you type the »192.168.1.1 IP into your Browser and click go or press enter?
I've setup hundreds upon hundreds of DSL Modems and when people can't connect there is usually a configuration error, or the Modem was not fully reset by the procedure outlined in the User Guide, or there is a Firewall issue blocking, or there is a Web Browser incompatibility issue/Script Blocking issue.
Post the LAN Adapter settings, the TCP/IP Property settings and the LAN properties.
Here is one settings box that will mess up the IE browser. All 3 should be unchecked.

Try one more reset by the procedure steps listed in the User Guide.
Try a different Browser. I suggest Firefox from here:
Also try these Static LAN settings instead of what you were using.

Good Luck -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

DSL speeds are controlled/set in the DSLAM locked in a cage or a box and the Modem can only connect at the provisioned port rate set in the DSLAM, so you will not get faster speeds unless you call and order/pay for a faster speed plan. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

Hank Its all relative Premium join:2002-05-21 Burlington, WV | If you don't understand what the parameters are to get the current modem you have working what good is it going to do to get a different modem? At some point you are going to have to set it up with the required parameters. |

| said by ndowens :the problem is. my pppoe in the modem is messed up so it isn't authenticating. I'd have to say there is another issue as the Firmware holds/stores the PPPoE shim and it holds/stores the Modem code including the Virtual Circuit data aka the VPI/VCI pair. If, and this is a tremendous, huge, super size big if, it would not work with any PPPoE. You likely were trying to set it up while using the Netgear online and that won't work.
You would hook a single PC to the Comtrend and set it up as seen in the User Guide for PPPoE. Reboot the Modem after saving the changes and reboot the PC. Now test to verify all is working before trying to add more PCs. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |
