Getting your D-Link DSL-2302B to Work with Qwest

Hello,

I just wanted to post this information in case anyone runs into the same problems I have, they will not have to go through the headache of dealing with Qwest/Dlink customer support. If you use the DSL-2302B to connect to Qwest in PPPoE or PPPoA mode, you will find that you are unable to reach certain sites. In my case, Google domains worked perfectly, but for instance, MSN.com wouldn't. The DSL was connected and the Internet light was green. Well a little Googling revealed that it might be an issue with the MTU settings. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, the MTU size is not configurable on the DSL-2302B.

So here is the solution. You will need a router that supports PPPoE. In my case, I used the D-Link WBR-1310 I had laying around. First, I reset the DSL-2302B to factory settings. Then I went through the setup wizard. Set VPI/VCI to 0/32. Select bridging mode. Go through the rest of the wizard, I set the Local IP to an unused address, but I don't think it matters. Let the modem reset.

Then go to the router config page. Change the WAN connection type to PPPoE. Enter your regular un/pw provided by Qwest (***@qwest.net). You will have to provide the DNS addresses which are probably 205.171.3.25 and 2.25. Make sure MTU is set to 1492. Make sure connect mode is set to Always-On. Click save settings and let the device reboot. When it comes back up you will be connected to the net with no more random website issues!
