[AZ] Goodyear neighborhood slowdown

So for the past several months my neighborhood has been subject to the nightly slowdown some of the other AZ users have reported. By slowdown I mean anytime after say 5pm the maximum reported down will not exceed 6Mb/s and most nights will average 1Mb/s. And it gets worse as the evening progresses. (up stays above 3Mb/s 24/7) This it not an isolated incident as several neighbors have indicated the same thing.

I called Cox, they sent a tech. (at a risk of taking the $ hit) Super-Tech-Josh quickly realized that the problem was not within my house. (RG6 straight run, no splitters, no TV's, cat6 to PC, etc etc) He hooked up his own cable modem at the node in my front yard and was not able to breech 5-6Mb/s to his laptop. (after provisioning his MAC on my premier account)

He said the problem was out of his hands and he would call for further assistance. 1+ months have passed, no change.

Did I get the run-around? Would upgrading to Docsis3 (premierPlus) help to gain and edge over my neighbors?

Any help would be greatly appreciated... (calling all cox techs, my MAC is ready for a PM)

Not really. you're not even getting preferred speeds. upgrading will do nothing but cost you more money.
Are speeds good at 3am?

I will post some speedtests at various times. (I can't guarantee 3am though

For starters today, the sun is shining its a new day and my speeds will never be better, 4.5 and 3.2 whoohoo!

Well here is the thing, most likely your suffering from overloaded node, but could be other issues also. The thing is cox aint gunna fix whats not broken to them. So they will keep putting more and more people on the same node in your area. Then after awhile with everyone using a decent amount of bandwidth.. it causes the slowdowns during peak hours.

So the solution to this problem is them doing a node split.. But they will take there time making sure its not other problems first, because these node splits do cost some money, and they aint just gunna spend money in a area thats really not needed to them.

So what you can do for us, if possible start doing speedtest late at night, and see if your getting anything close to your advertised speeds. If so more then likely its the node being overloaded during the day(which is peak time). Anyways if you haven't already PMed one of the AZ Techs on these forums, then do so.. and see what they can find out first.

I just asked a neighbor for a test. This guy lives 6 houses away:

Maybe cox will want to send a tech to his house too and charge him.

Well if you have cox's $3 a month insurance plan, you wont get any tech visit charges.

Same problem with same symptoms for several of us on my street here in Glendale. Based on checking AZ posts others having same issue.

It seems, not sure of course, something changed after we had the state wide outage.

One of the Cox folks is looking into it for me but I have not heard back.

Given the close similarity of our symptoms, yours, mine, check some of the other posts for the others, something about Cox's infrastructure is amiss again.

Seeing the same kinds of issues here in Avondale on my home cable internet connection as well.

I'd have to agree with jsmiddleton4, something is not right in the Cox network somewhere either valley or statewide. Getting Cox to find the problem and fix it is a whole other ball of wax...

I'll have to start doing some additional testing on the Cox Business cable Internet service I have access to at a couple of my work locations and see if the problem is the same there.

It must be only in certain areas as I am having no issues here in the Arrowhead Ranch area of Glendale.

In the morning my speeds are fine. By late afternoon speeds are 1/3 of normal and lots of failure to connect, like dns lookup problems.

The similarity across the board for different folks makes me wonder what is going on. My problems started right after the state wide outage.

Just ran this at 1:13AM (7/3):

When I ran it yesterday (7/2) at 10:55AM it was like this:

The first is horrible, especially considering that it is 1AM! The second one is not bad, but not even close to what I was getting a couple of months ago. I rarely ever make it into 20mb/s speedboost territory any more and then only for an extremely short period.

Results shown here pretty well match what I get on this site and at »test.lvcm.com/

I would like to see the folks in Goodyear, Surprise, etc., do an early morning test, then a late afternoon to evening test.

Heat related? Equipment failing somewhere in the chain that is Cox HSI due to heat?

This is from another thread.

"It's like most of the the west coast does not exsist. This happened a few nights ago and Open DNS is not responding due to cox either."

I am not technologically savy enough to know what "it" is, but something is going on and Cox is not providing the service levels we are paying for. I hope they are getting on "it". I have been communicating with one of the most excellent Cox guys here who has let local folks know what we are experiencing. But as of yet no clarification or communication back regarding details.

I heard back. Local Cox wants to do a truck roll to capture the problem and check my home.

Sorry but that has not fixed it for the other folks that have noticed the problem and Cox does not need to do a truck roll to capture the data off any of their taps.

This is the Cox dance I detest. Proving to Cox its not my home and it is their infrastructure is time consuming and extremely frustrating. I wish there was an choice for service......

It would be great if folks could post their morning and evening speeds. The more information we can provide the Cox folks who help here the better chance we have of getting local Cox folks to get it in gear and do the bigger task of tracking this thing down in their infrastructure instead of endless truck rolls or "Its your router..."
