| [TWC] Time Warner Buffalo drops two channels with no replacement
In the past two weeks, WNGS and Familyland both ceased operations on channels 11 and 169 on the Time Warner Suburban lineup. Time Warner never replaced them when there is a local digital station of WGRZ---RTV/RTN which is now available in WNY. THIS Network is also available which is owned by MGM.
It seems TWC WNY doesn't feel replacement stations are necessary or even viable. |

Adding channels is a little more complicated than just slapping them on.

@rr.com | Since TWC knew in advance of both stations ceasing operations, they should have planned for replacement channels to keep their customer base happy and show good business sense. That isn't to much to ask is it? |

That isn't to much to ask is it? It's a lot more complicated then it sounds. The station needs to get a feed into TWC, and there are some other technical considerations to be made, such as the format the feed wil deliver content to TWC, configuration needed for inserting advertisements, etc, and there are financial considerations that need to be signed into a contract.
All of that may take many, many months..... where it is quite possible that the station you mentioned announced to TWC that they are ceasing operations only about 2 months ago.
Also, I am willing to bet that over the last 2 years, more stations have been added then have been removed. They don't HAVE to do a 1-on-1 replacement every time a TV stations goes bust. -- "I reject your reality and substitute my own!" |

| reply to rick4769 When CNN Financial folded years ago, neither Dish Network or DirecTV picked up CNN International as a replacement, neither replaced CNN Sports Illustrated, Trio was removed from the DirecTV lineup when it became Sleuth but returned a few years later. Both ABC Family and ESPN Classic were removed from Dish Network for a while with no real replacements. When America's Voice went belly up Dish didn't replace it either. And on Dish Network 67 is off air as well.
Channels come and channels go, Time Warner never replaced Mojo I guess. The day Mojo when off the air there was no immediate replacement. Now I know you're just posting this to take a cheap shot at Time Warner

| Verizon is replacing WNGS with RTV/RTN which is a sub-channel at WGRZ-Buffalo by the end of the month. Verizon didn't carry Familyland but does carry Family Net. TWC has made no commitment to RTV/RTN or a replacement for Familyland.
TWC in Buffalo doesn't even carry CNN-International which is owned by Time Warner. Other stations that TWC Buffalo should look into are WGN-America, Military History Channel, Pentagon Channel, and the ION TV sub channels. |

| reply to rick4769 Not every MSO carries every channel, nor will there ever be one that does. I'd like it TW Rochester carried WNLO in HD, not that it matters much since Reaper has been canceled, Military History Channel would be a nice add and I'm awaiting the additional HBOs and Cinemax's in HD, but if I wanted them badly enough I'd switching to other services that had them. |

That would depend on who posted it. Mr Rick is an anon poster who I don't know other than his infrequent complaints.
Do you believe everything anon ppl on the internet say?

@rogers.com | WNGS is supposed to be back on the air when they finish building their Digital Facility around the end of August if all goes well. They will then be programming it with Daystar , but who knows, they could continue to offer "THIS" as a sub-channel. |

| reply to rick4769 Can I ask you something Rick? Why are you making such a big deal over two stations that apparently weren't good enough to remain on the air? I mean, WNGS after losing RTN was completely useless and I have never heard of half of the bootleg programs on This TV. And Familyland... Really? I see bickering and complaining all the time over how people get over charged with channels they don't need... and believe me my friend, these are two that I will not miss at all. I would rather expect to see a big fuss over losing ESPN or Discovery Channel being dropped, but I am sure you will live without getting two channels in their replacement.
Honestly, how many channels have been added to the HD lineup compared to how many have gotten dropped? Man, nothing can please anybody these days. BTW didn't you apparently drop TW when HD Net and HD Net Movies were dropped on TW? -- TW WNY - Surf & View Package + Digital Variety | 52" Samsung DLP hooked to SA4250HDC via HDMI Cable | 22" LG Flatron monitor hooked to SA4250HDC via HDMI to DVI Cable | Let's Go Buffalo... | reply to HyView13 First of all, THIS TV ran the MGM film library which was the majority of their programming. So, to categorize MGM film library as bootleg programming, raises a lot of questions regarding your expertise in television programming.
I guess the main problem is seeing a blank screen on the channel number stating the channel ceased operations. Like I mentioned before, TWC was warned months in advance that this was going to happen. They could have made alternate plans which would have been quite favorable.
Yes, I have an HD television but as Hob continually states, how about the elderly or poor that only have basic lifeline and are on a fixed income? On channels 2 to 13, 5 and now 11 are both empty. Wouldn't it be nice to see RTV/RTN which is a sub-channel of WGRZ added to one of those to slots?
I was upset when they TWC dropped HDNet and HDMovie Net as they were two of my favorite channels. Unfortunately, I don't see the same quality programming on RFD- HD or even Smithsonian HD. RFD-HD at best is nothing more than an SD channel that gets premium HD tier placement. Smithsonian is like having another Discovery channel.
TWC owes the customers quality channels across the board to justify their yearly price increases. |

This is completely different to what you stated. A verbal commitment to carry is not "Verizon is replacing WNGS with RTV/RTN which is a sub-channel at WGRZ-Buffalo by the end of the month."
I assumed you had some other updated information, Oh well.

| I was told by the Verizon engineer for Amherst area that it would be on by the end of July. Why should I lie or even better, why should I have to authenticate every thing I post. Hob, you never authenticate anything you post. You ask others to provide links and you never do.
When is TWC going to carry RTV/RTN? Has anyone made a commitment? According to the Time Warner customer service representative I talked to on the phone, Familyland is still available on channel 169. I guess showing a screen that tells the customer it has ended broadcasting counts as a channel. |

You don't. You have however chosen to be a anonymous poster so unfortunately anything you say has little credence. You have no posting history and to be honest you could be anyone...or in fact several different people as anyone can post using rick4769. I dont believe every Tom, Dick and Rick claiming to have inside information.
"You ask others to provide links and you never do."
What links would you like me to provide?
It would be interesting to see how accurate your Verizon's friends information is. The FIOS forum is often complaining about dates given for program adds that tend to be several months off.
