Media Center solutions

I have one desktop loaded with XP Media Center and am about to buy tuner hardware for that box. I also have an XBox360 and two laptops: one with XP Pro, and one with Vista Home Edition.

I am interested in solutions for sharing the video feed. It does not look like XP Media Center is a good solution for that. Am I correct and should get SageTV, or am I wrong and there is a way to share a live feed?

Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed.

P.S. the tuner solution would be the Haupauge HD PVR.

Check out GB-PVR. It's free, it works and I'm pretty sure that it can stream video to your Xbox via a plugin. It can also stream video to other PC's and to a host of other network media players.

I’m not really much of an expert with SageTV as I have yet to try it but it may well be one of the best solutions if you wish to share your Hauppauge HD PVR across a network. Some Hauppauge HD PVR users apparently use SageTV on a dedicated Windows Home Server and access it via client systems, using SageTV software, which would seem to be an elegant solution.

Microsoft Vista Media Center doesn’t seem to have any real-time access previsions for tuners in this way beyond the “extender” model which may be dying or at the very least dwindling as is evident by Linksys and HP dropping their respective extender products. There is no official support for the Hauppauge HD PVR in Media Center. There is the DVBLink for Hauppauge HD PVR project:

BeyondTV may also be a worthwhile alternative as it also has Hauppauge HD PVR support.
