surround sound speakers

i want to get some speakers i can hook up to the cable box and dvd player that doesn't require a receiver, i got enough space for them and don't mind a subwoffer.

also, a headphone jack for private listening too.

does this exist or do you need a receiver?

You need a receiver!

You can get a Logitech Z-5500, which I have and is great and fits the bill. But only if you can find it on sale. Because at MSRP or so you can buy a good receiver and matched speakers.

You can go with Warzau See Profile's suggestion, as Computer Speakers are the only ones I know of that don't require a receiver.

However, depending on the speakers, you may need to spend close to $300 to get a set with multiple inputs to be able to use both your Cable box and DVD player, and you'll probably have to do some creative adapting of cables to make it work.

You'd be much better off getting a receiver and speakers, or one of the Home Theater in a Box setups.
