Remotely schedule and manage DVR content with the iPhone...

AT&T yesterday announced that the company has released a new, free iPhone (and iPod Touch) application that gives iPhone and U-Verse users another way to schedule recordings and manage U-Verse DVR content remotely. "Note this is just another way to access the DVR remotely," an AT&T spokesman tells us. "In 2006 U-verse allowed Web Remote Access and in 2007 added Mobile Remote Access," he says. Once AT&T thinks the HSDPA (or LTE) network can handle it, perhaps they'll offer the ability to watch U-Verse DVR content remotely via the iPhone (and stop crippling place shifting applications from companies not named AT&T while they're at it).

I wish all providers would do something like this. It's these little things that help differentiate them. You want to attract more Gen Y and beyond? Time to start innovating.

Good Job, AT&T U-Verse.

Re: Video in action

Don't bother. U-verse is full of problems. I had it for 6 months, had 5 service calls and finally went back to Cox. Their tech team always blamed the previous tech, but the problems were never solved. Very irritating. My house was only 150 feet from the main box, but still it sucked. The U-verse picture is better though...

Well TiVo's had web scheduling for a long time and I believe DirecTV does as well. That counts as far as I am concerned, not everything needs to be an actual "app" - afterall that's what the "real internet" was supposed to be on the device, right?

Of course the app is cool and nifty but still, the idea of remote schedule DVR isn't new or inventive on their part.

Re: Video in action

DirecTV has a real iPhone app too.

But, DirecTV doesn't have two-way schedule management. They simply allow you to select a recording, then send down a signal from the satellite that says "Record this as a series" or "Record once". There's no way to confirm it went through or manage conflicts (or even know if there is a conflict).

AT&T's is much more advanced, allowing you to see what's scheduled and make whatever changes you need.

I downloaded it this morning. Works as advertised - I deleted some old stuff as easily as using the U-Verse remote. I like it a lot better than the current web manager, but I think that's getting overhauled at some point.

Now for a voicemail app

This is a nice app. It's actually been out for almost a week now.

Now for a voicemail app, I really hate having to dial in to get voicemail. There is not even an option to have the voicemail e-mailed, sure it will e-mail you to let you know, but you still have to dial in or log into the website to get your voicemail. I would also like to see the u-verse site made iphone friendly too. hint hint!

Anyone got a URL to this app in the app store? I tried searching for got nothing, also searched all AT&T apps and it wasn't on there.

Re: URL?

Search the app store for "U-verse" and you'll find it.

@terpointenergy.com

It’s called "AT&T Mobile Remote Access"
I am installing it right now. Hopefully it will be better than the mobile web remote (browser version).

FYI- ATT also launched a new web remote (for the pc browser), after using it for over a week I am quite impressed! Good job ATT. I know they seem slow but they are doing a good job and in my area everyone is switching over from Comcast. Most people were sick of paying those high Comcast rates. However recently Comcast has reduced their rates and are quite competitive. Still I feel ATT is a nicer company to deal with it. Comcast treat you like a utility company and not like a competitive business.

u-verse streaming over the 3g or eventual 4G network?

On ATT?

Yeah right.

If they do, I guarantee they'll keep the cap at 5GB. That's what 20 30-minute shows a month? That's even assuming they compress it correctly, of course.

Re: u-verse streaming over the 3g or eventual 4G network?

Even if AT&T's network could handle it, I still don't think this is going to happen any time soon. The U-verse DVR does not have the hardware needed to re-encode the video down to something internet friendly on the fly.

Bandwith Cap

I think its funny that all of these ATT users are complaining about a 3G bandwith cap, switch to Tmobile, they have a better phone, and unlimited 3G access!
