| Maybe one day soon? VRADS are popping up everywhere, they are showing up all over North Carolina, one is within a quarter mile of my house, and I am fed through it.
I found some techs working there a couple of weeks ago, so I stopped to chat with them. They verified the new box was for U-Verse, and also verified that my line does go through that box. I was told that I would likely be able to get a higher speed DSL soon, but they had no idea of a date for actual deployment.
I don't know if they really had no idea, or if they had orders not to spill the beans.
Either way it is coming, but in typical BS/AT&T fashion, nobody is talking. -- Best of luck

| Re: Maybe one day soon? Do you know of any visits to where your telephone service terminal is, i.e., a pedestal for buried cable, or an aerial terminal if you have cable on a pole? Normally, the technicians will test from your terminal back to the cross connect box to determine if your cable pair will support the service. If there are problems, such as bridged tap or very light trouble that you wouldn't necessarily notice, it will be repaired prior to providing U-Verse. You are usually looking at at least a month after AT&T starts testing before service will be offered. | |

I work for at&t, formally Bellsouth. Fact to the matter, the techs have no clue when a system they are working on will go online. We get the order to setup the U-verse terminal. It is up to the company when the system is powered up and ready to go. As a tech, we aren't told much until it is time for the deployment of the system. Trust me, when the system is up and ready to go, you will know!!!

| hey, I work for AT&T (for 2 months now, also in a different department) and I still don't know when my area is going to get it. I sent an e-mail to the U-Verse department and was basically told (not in these words) that it is confidential, even to employees. | |

| Americast That's funny. They still used that brand down there. Ameritech used it in a number of their markets for cableTV. Until they sold it off to WOW when they merged with SBC. If they were smart they should have kept it and just upgraded the system. They would have had no problem in some areas rebuilding out since the system was already city wide.
Another stupid mistake of SBC.

SNET in Connecticut also built out a HFC plant parallel to its POTS plant. SBC terminated/abandoned the service when they bought SNET and the HFC plant reminents rot on the poles to this day.

| Re: Americast that maybe true but still. they wouldnt have to build out this new network in many areas if they would have kept the hold HFC networks. In Columbus they had Americast what did Ed do with it? He sold it to WOW then deicded several years later he wanted to be in the TV business again. WTF!? why sell something when you're going to rebuild it again?
But then again thats ATT for ya.

| Re: VRADS Don't hold your breath on the launch. Toledo has had them being installed since they annouced this waste of money service. We still have yet to have a launch date for anything. And from the looks of it TV won't be announced here since we're not even on the list of cities they're going to cover that were filed with State. | |

| bellsouth tv In central Fl. (Orlando) Bell had IPTV working 6-12 mo b4 the ATT buyout, it was in testing and some employees had it- seems like it was 25m but I'm not sure, that stopped with the deal. ATT use different vendor eq that Bell so they started again with ATT. Drums tell me that Orlando may see a roll out Dec or Jan, ATT is hiring techs to do the installs in Oct, train in Nov and then we will see. I have heard of new 2 tier wage scales that say new people will make less and be a non union group but am not sure of these facts. | |

| Re: bellsouth tv "was conducting IPTV trials before being acquired by AT&T."
I was the help desk manager of the trial. We were getting 48mb with ADSL2+ bonded at 4000 ft and with the MMX we got 80 mb to several homes. And as you said after the deal ATT said we don't care about any of that we are using VDSL 1.5 24 mb at 3000 ft. What idiots but they call the shots now and when your TV goes down hope you can understand the outsourced desk.

| Thanks man I retired in 2001 and this was all after me and what I heard was from still working friends but I didn't know anyone directly involved with the test and did not know they got that kind of speed. Back of my head seem like the cabinets were much smaller? | |

| Re: why sell snet/att broadband to rebuild from scratch? AT&T Broadband was an initiative of "the old" AT&T, not SBC, which became "the new" at&t after buying the remnants of "the old" AT&T. (I use uppercase and lowercase to distinguish the two) The problem was that AT&T had become bloated, and the cable/broadband division was a huge money pit- it was only after it was sold to Comcast that it became profitable. AT&T dumped it's wireless arm (the original AT&T Wireless) for the same reason. The long term plan was to also get rid of long distance and focus solely on providing business services- they weren't interested in TV.
at&t doesn't provide telephone services to the whole country, so why would they care about providing TV to the whole country? I doubt you'll ever see U-Verse outside of at&t's telephone service areas.

| Good news, goodbye to a bad product. Hello U-verse I worked for BEI (BellSouth's cable arm) for four years. It was the worst product out there. They never took it seriously and it appears to be going the way of the dinosaur. I say good, it stunk and never worked properly. I just hope U-Verse is a lot better. | |
